We are proposing a change in win criteria from game wins to match wins. After some analyzing, we feel as though this would help in decreasing the effects of forfeits. This would impact payouts as well since there is more weight attached to each match won and lost. Below is the break down of how we arrived at this conclusion. Input is always appreciated and welcomed!

Take away: With a lot of forfeits (4 in this case), we think match wins would have been a better deciding factor for standings. Their games are all very close but the first place team only won 9 of their 14 matches and two of the match wins (26 games) were given to them by default because of two forfeits.
SCENARIO TWO- No forfeits

Take away: With no forfeits, using match wins did not change standings. There are two ties which will require us to look at the amount of games won anyways (the tie breaker) but if you look at the tie breaker, it does not change the standing order. We are happy this did not change the standings because when everyone plays every match, the game wins are a fine determining factor.
PAYOUTS
We feel as if whatever we choose as the standing criteria should follow suit for payouts.
-
Payouts in the end, are usually more important to the players than bragging rights or a trophy so it wouldn’t make sense to put so much emphasis on match wins and then payout by game wins.
-
It would be more clear to players; match wins are the deciding factor all together
-
Each match win and match loss has more weight because the number of matches is significantly less than games so each match win means a lot more but each match loss would mean a lot more as well.
SCENARIO ONE- Using GAME Wins for End of Season Split Example
STEP 1 |
Calculate dues money less expenses
(t-shirts, door prizes, banquet cost, etc.) |
$1648.50 |
STEP 2 |
Take the win percentage (shown in table above) of the total from step 1 and divide by total amount of wins in your league. This equals the amount each win is worth. Multiply this amount by your team's wins. |
$1648.50 x .75= $1236.375/ 780= $1.59 per win
|
STEP 3 |
Take the loss percentage (shown in table above) of the total from step 1 and divide by total amount of losses in your league. This equal the amount each loss is worth. Multiply this amount by your team's losses. |
$1648.50 x .25= $412.125/ 780= $.53 per loss |
STEP 4 |
Add together the two amounts to get the team's total payout envelope. |
Ex. 171 wins x $1.59 + 89 losses x $.53= $319.06 |
SCENARIO TWO- Using MATCH Wins for End of Season Split Example
STEP 1 |
Calculate dues money less expenses
(t-shirts, door prizes, banquet cost, etc.) |
$1648.50 |
STEP 2 |
Take the win percentage (shown in table above) of the total from step 1 and divide by total amount of match wins in your league. This equals the amount each match win is worth. Multiply this amount by your team's match wins. |
$1648.50 x .75= $1236.375/60= $20.60 per match win
|
STEP 3 |
Take the loss percentage (shown in table above) of the total from step 1 and divide by total amount of match losses in your league. This equal the amount each match loss is worth. Multiply this amount by your team's match losses. |
$1648.50 x .25= $412.125/60= $6.86 per match loss |
STEP 4 |
Add together the two amounts to get the team's total payout envelope. |
Ex. 16 wins x $20.60 + 4 losses x $6.86= $357.04 |
Food for thought:
-
Would match wins make teams less apt to play final matches because they are only capable of winning 1 match that night versus 13 games which may bump them up?
-
Since match wins are more likely to be tied than game wins, this would mean the tied teams would get the same amount of money as one another. For example, 2nd, 3rd and 4th if they all have 7 match wins; they would all get the same payout... Is this fine? This can still happen with game wins if teams are tied (but is less frequent)
