Whether or not you celebrate the Fourth of July, it’s a good excuse to indulge in a cocktail. Choosing Fourth of July themed cocktails is easy: anything that’s red, white or blue, anything that’s perfect for barbecuing, and/or anything that has any kind of American history or theme to it.
Yes, there is actually a cocktail called the Fourth of July. It’s a layered drink with red, white and clear layers (pomegranate, blue curacao and vodka). You can actually use cream in place of the vodka to make the clear layer white, but then two of the layers are non-alcoholic. It looks perfectly festive with the clear vodka layer.
This drink was invented in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and is definitely a little piece of Americana. It comes out a nice cherry red color and makes a wonderful choice for celebrating the Fourth of July. This is also a fun recipe, because the original version is very simple (two rums, a couple of fruit components) and you can add your own twist to make it special.
It’s actually blue, and it has the name of a state in it. You can’t beat that for a Fourth of July celebration. This is a delicious tropical drink featuring orange, pineapple and coconut.
Again with the U.S. place names and the color blue! The Blue Long Island takes the Long Island Iced Tea recipe and substitutes blue curacao for the cola, turning the drink blue in color and more orangey in flavor.
5. Blue Monday
Another blue colored drink that’s orange in flavor. This is a very good one for mixing in pitchers and pouring as needed for your guests. It looks beautiful every time, and the flavor is great, too.
With a name like that, this one is perfect for the Fourth of July. It comes out a nice shade of red – a bright, semi-translucent cranberry. It also tastes like cranberry – very nice!
The name may be all wrong for a Fourth of July drink, but the color is so right. It’s a cinnamon flavored bright red shot that’s loads of fun to sip or chug. Just tell guests it’s a “Red Hot.”
If you like candy drinks, the Vanilla Creamsicle comes out looking like a glass of milk, but with a delicious orange and vanilla flavor. There’s no red or blue to it, but this one’s so easy to make and so tasty, it’s great for backyard barbecues. Just remember that it has about the same kick as a Zombie, and it sneaks up on you, too.
Okay, so there’s nothing particularly red, white or blue about this one, but it tastes like marshmallows toasting, and that’s perfect for mid-summer.
